MAY 2nd - CUBS SCORE 13 RUNS IN SINGLE INNING & BUCK HITS FOR THE CYCLE !!!

In the third game of their road series at Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta, the Cubs ran roughshod in the top of the 1st inning against the Braves, ringing up an incredible 13 runs. Poor Rick Mahler didn't even make it out of the initial inning and practically had to be carried out of the game on a stretcher. The final score in the end was an embarrassing 16-1 with Ferguson Jenkins hurling a 6-strikeout, no-walk complete game.

One of the hottest bats in the major leagues right now is none other than the Toronto Blue Jays' Buck Martinez. Yes, you heard me right - BUCK MARTINEZ. Martinez, a catcher who for his entire career up until now who's only been known for his defence and weak bat, has all of a sudden been swinging a heavy, heavy bat for the Jays bashing well in excess of .500 for the past 5 games. Well, this evening's game versus veteran lefty Paul Splittorff and the Royals was certainly no exception, in fact it was the game of a lifetime for Buck. Martinez started off the game swatting a deep fly well over the head of Willie Wilson who'd been playing him shallow. Wilson chased the ball all the way to the CF fence and Martinez ended up on third for a triple. Buck later in the 3rd doubles for his 2nd hit of the game, and in the 6th laces a single. Wait a second - Buck Martinez hitting for the cycle ? Nah ... Fast forward to the top of the 9th inning. K.C. stopped Dan Quisenberry on the mound. Toronto is down 3-1. Men on 1st and 2nd. One out. Quiz grooves a sinker - that does NOT sink. Buck clubs it to left. That ball is GONE ! BUCK MARTINEZ HAS JUST HIT FOR THE CYCLE !!! Roy Lee Jackson preserves the 4-3 lead and earns the save in the bottom of the 9th.
