Krukow vs Lea
CHARLIE LEA HURLS ONE-HITTER !!
Young Charlie Lea is absolutely masterful as he takes a no-hitter into the bottom of the 7th inning. Bo Diaz ended the dream in the 7th frame slapping a 2-out single to centrefield. It was about the only thing that Phillie fans could cheer about as Montreal, for the third game in a row, beat Philadelphia in their season-opening homestand. Diaz's hit would also be the only hit of the ballgame for Philadelphia, as Lea racks up his 2nd superlative pitching performance (starting with last season's no-hitter) in as many years and continues to lay claim to a spot among baseball's brightest young hurlers for the future.
Final Score: Expos 4, Phillies 1

Candelaria vs Forsch
BUCCOS BULLPEN BLOWS GAME IN 8TH
Opening Day at Busch Stadium; Darrell Porter's RBI-single broke the deadlock in the bottom half of the 8th inning. With young Rod Scurry in to relieve Candelaria, the Buccos blew a chance for a win, later in the game, most probably in extra innings. "The Bearded One" was of course brought in for an inning of work in the 9th and shut the door on any chances Pittsburgh might have had at coming back in this one.
Final Score: Cardinals 4, Pirates 3

PITTSBURGH BULLPEN BLOWS ANOTHER ONE
The Bucs bullpen blows a second straight game, this time it's Tekulve. Brought in to seal a sure 4-3 win in the top of the 9th, Tekulve immediately gives up a single to Tommy Herr, and then a walk-off 2-run home run to Keith Hernandez, making this his second blown save in as many chances so far. Cards fans go home very happy as an Opening Night doubleheader, the first in many years, is won on both ends by St. Looie.
Final Score: Cardinals 5, Pirates 4
Rangers @ Indians
Honeycutt vs Sorensen
SUPER JOE CLUBS ANOTHER ONE
"Super Joe" Charboneau continues where he left off from last season, today clubbing yet another home run in an Indians romp over the hapless Rangers. The Texas pitching staff looks quite inept and the lineup appears to be among the worst in the American League.
Final Score: Indians 8, Rangers 3
Yankees @ White Sox
Guidry vs Burns
CHISOX ROLL OVER YANKS
Now the only unbeaten team in baseball, the White Sox's pitching continues to dominate this Yankee lineup. Britt Burns pitches 8 strong innings today, while the Chisox bats again were alive with Kemp and Luzinksi starring.
Final Score: White Sox 8, Yankees 3

**GAME RAINED OUT**
Game cancelled due to heavy rain in Cincinnati area. Game rescheduled as part of a June 14th doubleheader.

Astros @ Braves
Ryan vs Mahler
RYAN EXPRESS RUNS DOWN ATLANTA BATS
Ryan goes the distance, hurling a 5-hitter while whiffing 10 and only walking 2, handing the Braves their second loss in a row. Recent call-up Harry Spilman is the batting star for Houston going 3-for-4 with a home run and 4 RBIs.
Final Score: Astros 5, Braves 1
Brewers @ Blue Jays
Vuckovich vs Clancy
BREWERS COMPLETE SERIES SWEEP OF JAYS
Still without a win, Toronto is swept in their opening series against the Brewers in this, the fourth game. Again Jim Clancy pitches fairly well, but again he shows a big tendency to give up the longball allowing a shocking total of FOUR of them in this game !
Final Score: Brewers 5, Blue Jays 4
Red Sox @ Orioles
Eckersley vs Palmer
ECK OUTDUELS PALMER IN BOSOX WIN
The O's jumped out to the early 2-1 lead on Gary Roenicke's 2nd inning solo shot, but the Boston bats stormed back against Jim Palmer in the 4th, scoring 4 runs off of him. Two of the runs coming off the unlikely power source of Glenn Hoffman, who's 2-run home run shocked everybody. Meanwhile, Dennis Eckersley shut down Baltimore the rest of the way in a 5-strikeout, complete game victory.
Final Score: Red Sox 5, Orioles 2
Cubs @ Mets
Ripley vs Swan
SWAN NOTCHES 2ND VICTORY
Recent acquisition Allen Ripley is hit hard and often, giving up 7 earned runs over 5 and 1/3 innings as the Mets continue to play well despite much turmoil in their dressing room over the Foster and Valentine dramas.
Final Score: Mets 7, Cubs 4
Tigers @ Royals
Morris vs Gura
GURA SHELLED EARLY; TIGERS WIN
Larry Gura, normally a bastion of consistently fine pitching for the Royals, is shelled mercilessly by Detroit's crew. Dick Howser literally has to run out to the mound to rescue Gura after allowing 7 earned runs on 11 hits over only 2 and 1/3 innings ! Young Buddy Black and old Grand Jackson hold the Tigers to only a run the rest of the way, but the damage is already done.
Final Score: Tigers 8, Royals 3
Angels @ Twins
Forsch vs Erickson
NO TWINS DRAMATICS THIS TIME AS ANGELS HOLD ON TO WIN
The Angels take a 5-3 lead into the 8th, and when Ken Forsch loads the bases with only one out, manager Gene Mauch brings in Don Aase. The same man who blew an Angels win yesterday. Aase hits the first batter (Gaetti), enabling the runner from third (Faedo) to score, but then gets Wynegar to pop out to Brian Downing, and then strikes out pinch-hitter Bobby Mitchell, preserving the California win.
Final Score: Twins 10, Angels 9
Mariners @ Athletics
Perry vs Norris
TOUGH-LUCK LOSS FOR PERRY IN 8TH
The Old Man looked a decade younger today and duels with the arguably the best starting pitcher in the American League, for 7 innings. With the game knotted in a 1-1 tie in the 8th, Rickey Henderson again gets on base with his 2nd single of the game. He immediately steals 2nd, his second theft of the game, and Jim Essians hurried throw sails high over Julio Cruz' head into centrefield, allowing Henderson to end up on third. The next batter, Dwayne Murphy, promptly slaps a Perry sinker into left for an RBI single, plating the go-ahead run. In the top of the 9th with 2 out, Martin, seeing enough of a tiring Norris, yanks him in favour of his latest young bullpen stud, Dave Beard. Beard whiffs Julio Cruz on pure heat for the save and the Oakland win.
Final Score: Athletics 2, Mariners 1

Mariners @ Athletics
Nunez vs Underwood
MARINERS ROOKIE TOSSES TWO-HITTER IN MAJOR LEAGUE DEBUT !!
Both pitchers take their battle over a 1-1 score into the 8th inning, but the deadlock is shattered when Nelson serves up a solo home run to Davey Lopes. The one run gap would stand as Langford would pitch a flawless 9th.
Final Score: Mariners 4, Athletics 2
Padres @ Dodgers
Montefusco vs Welch
NEW LOOK PADRES ?
Garry Templeton's clutch 8th inning RBI single, scoring a speeding Gene Richards from second base, wins the ballgame for San Diego. It's the 2nd win in a row for the Padres at Dodger Stadium and already the fans are talking about the difference manager Dick Williams is starting to make, already.
Final Score: Padres 4, Dodgers 2
